The Lodge

Milford House is a large gabled, white Victorian-style building with green trim and a large covered front porch. This comfortable lodge is the focal point for our twenty-seven rustic cabins along the wooded lakes. The lodge was built in 2000-2001, with loving attention to detail replicating the original building which was destroyed by fire in 2000. The interior architectural style and decor recreate the home of a well-to-do 19th century landowner. The lodge and dining room are fully wheelchair accessible, as are two of our lakeside cabins.

Reception Area & Parlour

The main doors off the large front verandah lead directly into an open and airy reception area. The main parlour is an inviting and popular meeting place before and after meals. A fireplace, which opens on either side, separates this formal parlour from a more casual living room off the well-stocked library.

Telephone calls may be made in the main lodge. There is a pay phone off the reception area.

Playroom & Games Cupboard

A children's playroom is located just off the reception area. This is a convenient place for youngsters to play while waiting for their meals to be served. A large chalkboard is popular for our budding young artists. Check out the Games Cupboard. We have a variety games, puzzles, cards, chess and checkers boards. A basketball, tennis racquets and balls, and other items may also be borrowed daily.

Dining Room

The dining room is comfortable and spacious, surrounded on three sides by windows. A set of French doors open onto the screened-in porch area — a wonderful spot to enjoy the morning paper, an after dinner coffee and dessert or a relaxing read with a good book from our extensive library.

Ken and Barbara Ruddock Library

Our extensive library has a wide selection of books on natural history, botany, local genealogical history and other reference books on many subjects. You will find the ever popular who-done-it section and a great supply of books for young readers — including many classics. All the books have been donated by guests. Help yourself. You are bound to find something to borrow while relaxing in the lodge or back at your cottage.

Meeting Room

A conference room on the second floor is available for small professional or business groups. Special Group Rates and times are available if you wish to book accommodations and then conduct your meetings in the conference room or main dining area. The conference room can accommodate groups up to twenty five people. The dining room can double as a meeting area for larger groups. Bookings are available from late-Spring to mid-October.

Smoke and Scent Free Areas

The Main Lodge and the front and back verandahs are smoke free areas.

This is also a scent-free environment. We ask our staff and guests to refrain from using perfumes, aftershave and other scented products when in the lodge, especially in the dining area. We ask for everyone's cooperation in our efforts to accommodate our guests with health sensitivities.

The living rooms, library and children's game room are for your enjoyment at any time.

Mail: Mail is picked up and delivered Monday through Friday. Mail, phone or fax messages will be placed at your table in the dining room. Stamps are sold at the front desk and stationery is available on request.

Laundry: Designated machines in our laundry area may be used for a small charge after 1:00pm. There are also laundromats in Annapolis Royal, Digby and Bear River.
